32nd International Campaign of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence-2023

November 25th to December 10th is remembered worldwide as the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, ensuring the commitment to eliminate all forms of gender-based violence against women/children. With the financial technical support of LWF Nepal, its implementing partner- LCWS has coordinated with local COBs, group, women network and local government to organize separate 2 events in Morang with slogan-‘Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women & Girls’ as theme for the year 2023.

The event been organized at Shree Mahalaxmi Secondary School, Rangeli 8 Darbesha on the date of 01 December 2023. Similarly, another event has been organized at Rangeli 02 Laxmipur on the date of 10 December 2023. There were 149 participants, including 49 males and 145 females. These events were organized in collaboration with Rangeli Municipality, Shree Charcheet Women Agriculture Cooperative (CWAC), Pratibaddh Mahila Utthan Samaj (PMUS), and Local Police Authority of Municipal Police Station Rangeli and Dhimdhime Police Station of Rangeli 01.

The program began by welcoming chief guests: Mrs. Bhuma Parajuli, deputy mayor of Rangeli Municipality, Mr. Patrash Marandi, LCWS Treasurer, Mr. Pradip Ale Magar, ASI of Rangeli police station, Mrs. Damanti Rajbanshi, psychologist from Rangeli municipality’s office, Mrs. Sushila Medan, CWAC president, Mrs. Anita Mardi, PMUS president, along with Mr. Sujit Soren, Mr. Roshan Soren, Mr. Suman Rai from LCWS, ward members, and local representatives from respective municipalities. Mrs. Sushila Murmu opened the event with the national anthem and a welcoming speech. She expressed gratitude to all participants for taking time from their busy schedules.

The program main topic was facilitated by Mrs. Damanti Rajbanshi, a psychologist from Women network of Rangeli. She explained why we run these campaigns yearly, stressing unity and the need to invest in preventing violence against women and girls. She defined different types of gender violence and ways to address these issues through institutions or social organizations.

During the program, the participants have been provided notebooks, IEC materials related to awareness on women rights and human rights, and guidelines regarding the process of filing complaint in respective security agencies pertaining to the any kind of gender-based violence.

Some participants have shared experiences and highlighted the efforts of the Nepal government and local authorities in curbing gender violence. This event increased awareness about women’s violence and empowerment. Here are some of speeches which were given by guests and participants of program. The speech from Mrs. Bhuma Parajuli, deputy mayor of Rangeli municipality said,” I am thankful to be honored as guest in this program. Such type of program helps to provide awareness in mass and community people about women’s violence, child’s rights, human rights and gender bases violence. We have equal to live and participant in social justice. I am always there to serve you if there are problems in social issues”.

Another participant, Mrs. Manu Mudiyari from Rangeli 8, said, “I am so happy to participate in this event. Through this program, I am concerned about gender violence, women’s rights, human rights, child’s rights and child’s marriage. I like to thank LWF, LCWS, Pratibaddh Mahila Utthan Samaj and Shree Charcheet Women Agriculture Cooperative for calling me to take part of this program. I will share with my family and neighbors about I leant from today program (With smiling)”.

The event concluded with remarks stressing continued collaboration for human rights, gender equality, and social justice. Mrs. Anita Mardi, Chairman of Pratibaddha Women Society, delivered the closing speech, expressing heartfelt gratitude to all participants and supporting organizations.
